William Henry Smith Foundation is proud to be the Chair School for the Calderdale Specialist Provision Cluster (SPC) which is a non-profit making cluster of special schools that deliver an offer of support for schools, teachers and pupils in mainstream settings throughout the district.

About us

The Calderdale Cluster is made up of William Henry Smith Foundation, Ravenscliffe High School and Sports College, Highbury School and Wood Bank School. The offer is advertised via the Calderdale SEND Local Offer, which is what Calderdale Council expects to be available across education, health and social care for children and young people who have SEND (Specialist Educational Needs and Disabilities).

It includes information, support, services and activities for children and young people with SEND, and their parent carers.

About the offer

Our offer is designed to support SEND leaders and teachers. This support could be training, bespoke support and professional supervision to ensure SEND provision is appropriate, accessible, and impactful.

The aim of this offer is to make sure that SEND pupils achieve the best possible outcomes, through a well-designed, sequential, curriculum.

Our sessions

Our team of expert professionals deliver a range of workshops and bespoke support as part of the Calderdale Local offer, aimed at schools and education staff. The sessions are either heavily funded with a nominal charge or free of charge, funded by the Local Authority. All sessions can be booked via Eventbrite using the links below. Dates are updated termly.

Wednesday 24th June 2026

This twilight session explores how inclusive, values-driven teaching can meet the needs of pupils with ADHD through strong Quality First Teaching. With a focus on relational practice, classroom environment, and adaptive teaching, we’ll look at how to create conditions where all learners can thrive. Practical, reflective, and grounded in real classroom experience.

Cost: £20.00 per person.

Twilight session

This session will aim to increase attendee's understanding of Pathological Demand Avoidance Syndrome in children. The session will dispel some common myths around PDA and provide professionals with some practical strategies for working with children who present as PDA.

This training is delivered face-to-face. More dates to follow.

Behaviour, emotional and mental wellbeing surgeries

Our surgeries offer a valuable opportunity to access support, and while places are limited, we aim to provide timely guidance that can make a real difference. We understand that challenges don’t always arise on a predictable schedule, but these sessions are designed to help you feel supported as early as possible.

These consultations are particularly effective as an early intervention. They work best when used proactively - when a child is beginning to show signs of concern or when you feel unsure about how best to support them. There is no charge for this session.

We ask schools bring one case study to share and provoke discussion around the suitability of strategies, support and intervention.
